The organ was invented by the Greeks around 250 BCE. This first organ was known as the hydraulus since water pressure was used to control the wind. Today, the organ is used mostly in churches and in orchestras.

A Greek, from Alexandria, called Ctesibius is believed to have invented the pipe organ in the 3rd century BC. His instrument had water pressure supplying the wind and he called it "hydraulis".
