Who invented records?

The first records were made for the gramophone, which was created by famous inventor Thomas Edison. Vinyl records came along after World War II, when RCA Victor needed an affordable alternative to transcription discs.

When Emile Berliner made his gramophone in 1888 he made it to use flat discs, which we know today as records. Up until them music had been recorded on a cylinder.
