The internet has it's roots in the military, and as such, has been in use since the 1960s. For most, the consumer-internet as we now know it dates back to around 1989.

The internet started its development in 1950. It was in 1991 that the World Wide Web (www) project was initialized and started to use browsers to search for information or relays data.
