A monopoly company is a company that has exclusive possession over something. For example. In previous years one telephone company had exclusive possession over the telephone system. This was the only telephone company one could contact if they needed telephone service. Nowadays one can contact various other telephone services for service rather than just one. That particular telephone company no longer has the monopoly on the telephone system.
