The numbers in a tire size refer to the tire's width, aspect ratio and the wheel's diameter. For a 205/55R16 this means the tire is 205 mm wide, has an aspect ratio of 55% (width divided by the height), and fits on a 16 inch diameter rim. The "R" refers to a radial tire.
