What are light emitting diodes made of?

Glad you asked...
Light emitting diodes are a semiconducting device. LEDs are made on single crystal silicon carbide substrates. The semiconductor layer is doped with dissimilar dopants to create a pn junction.

Then again, this answer might help you...
Light-emitting diodes are made from variety of inorganic semiconductor materials. The composition of LEDs depends on the color of the light emitted. Most LEDs are made from GaAs (Gallium arsenide).
