How do you read the tire size?

The size of a tire is usually on the sidewall of the tire itself. There is a series of number to look at. The first numbers (M+S) it means the tires are equipped to ride through the mud and the snow. If you see a P it means that the tires are for a passenger vehicle. The next numbers will be 3 digits. This is the width of the tire. The next number is the ratio of height to width. The smaller the number the wider and shorter the tire will be. The last number is the size of rims the tire requires.

When you look on the sidewall of your tire you will find a set of numbers like this: 205/55R16. The first number (205) is the width of the tire measured in millimeters. The second number (55) is the sidewall height. The letter R stands for radial construction, and the last number (16) is the rim or wheel size that this tire will fit.
