In order to avatars you will need Photoshop or GIMP. Then get a picture from artworks or clip art. Put the picture in photoshop and then downsize your picture.

To make an avatar, you can use any favorite picture that you have on your computer. What you would have to do is make the picture a smaller size, like a thumbnail size, so that you will be able to use it on forums or anywhere else avatars are used.
